Dermato-Oncology – Mole Mapping
Skin cancer is the most common form of cancer worldwide. However, when diagnosed early, most forms are, in a big percentage of patients, curable. Dermato-oncology focuses on the prevention, early diagnosis, and treatment of malignant and pre-malignant skin lesions.
At our clinic, we use the FotoFinder Vexia digital mole mapping system, one of the most advanced technologies in this field. The system captures high-resolution images of the entire skin and digitally records each mole, enabling the detection of minimal changes over time, changes that may be missed on clinical examination alone.
The procedure is painless and takes approximately 30-60 minutes. At the first visit, an initial “baseline” recording is taken, and at subsequent visits (usually annual), comparison is performed, also with the help of advanced software and AI. Moles showing suspicious changes are further evaluated and, where necessary, removed for histological examination.
When is mole mapping recommended?
Indications:
• Individuals with many moles (>50)
• Fair skin type (Fitzpatrick I-II)
• Personal history of melanoma or other skin cancer
• Family history of melanoma (first-degree relative)
• History of severe sunburns in childhood
• Individuals with dysplastic naevi or multiple dysplastic naevus syndrome
• Immunosuppressed patients (transplant recipients, chronic immunosuppression)
• Professionals with chronic sun exposure

How long does mole mapping take?
The first full mapping takes approximately 30-60 minutes. Follow-up visits are quicker.
Is it painful or invasive?
No. The examination is completely painless and non-invasive. It involves digital photography and dermoscopy only.
How often should it be done?
For most patients, annual follow-up is recommended. For high-risk patients, every 6 months may be advised.
